تمدن به‌مثابه سطح تحلیل

در بیشتر رشته‎های علوم انسانی تحلیل‎ها مبتنی بر نظریه‎ها صورت می‎گیرند و اساساً تحلیل خارج از نظریه اتقان و اعتبار کافی را ندارد. در نوشتار پیش‌رو به این پرسش پرداخته می‎شود که در حوزه مطالعات تمدنی  به‌عنوان یکی از حوزه‎های مطالعاتی نظری علوم اجتماعی  چگونه می‎توان از تمدن به‌مثابه یک سطح تحلیل و یا یک چارچوب نظری در تحلیل پدیده‎های اجتماعی بهره برد؟ به بیان دیگر، کاربست تمدن به‌مثابه یک نظریه چیست؟ از این‌رو، پرسش فرعی دیگر در این زمینه آن است که در استفاده از تمدن به‌عنوان یک سطح تحلیل، بر چه مفاهیمی باید توجه شود و هر مفهوم به کدام نیازمندی یا پرسشی پاسخ می‌دهد؟ در این مقاله تلاش می‎شود تا ضمن بررسی ماهیت تمدن، نقطه کانونی و قلب تمدن، چگونگیِ ساخت یک تمدن (فرایندی یا وضعیتی) و نیز حوزه اعتبار تمدنی، چارچوبی نظری برای تبیین و تحلیل در تمدن‌پژوهی به دست داده شود.

Civilization as a Level of Analysis

In most human sciences, analyses are made on the basis of theories; in fact, analyses outside theories are not adequately wellfounded. In this paper, I will be concerned with the question of how we can, in the field of civilization studies—as a speculative field of social sciences—employ civilization as a level of analysis or as a theoretical framework in the analysis of social phenomena. In other words, what is the function of civilization as a theory? And then there is an ancillary question: in the use of civilization as a level of analysis, what concepts should be deployed and what need or question each of these concepts respond to? In this paper, I seek to examine the nature of civilization, its focal point, how to construct a civilization (as a process or a state) and the area of civilizational validity. Moreover, I will provide a theoretical framework for explanation and analysis in civilization studies.
