K.r.w. brewer has made many important contributions to survey sampling theory and practice. in this article i recall a few aspects of his work,namely his examination of the basic estimator forms in survey sampling inference,and his attempts to accommodate the design-based reasoning and the model-based reasoning in one inferential system. © 2011 pakistan journal of statistics.
