Thermosolutal convection in a rectangular enclosure with opening partitions: An experimental study

This study is an experimental investigation of thermosolutal natural convection in a rectangular box with divided plates placed in the upper and lower of the interior of the box to create a central slot. a display of the flow field due to the arrangement of plates,the temperature of the liquid inside the box,and the spatial variation in density,for a fixed buoyancy ratio (n value),are components of this study. laser shadowgraphy was used to observe the flow field and to record the camera pictures. in addition,to understand the flow structure,flow field temperature and mass transfer rates were measured and recorded for forward thermosolutal flow and for backward thermosolutal flow. the ranges of the following dimensionless parameters in this study were as follows: ar=1.8,ap=0.02,pr=7~8,sc=1700~2500,n=5.01~8.16,gr,t=8.16 × 105,gr,m= 4.36 × 106~6.15 ×106. in the case of forward thermosolutal flow,the heated fluid circulated in the upper half of the container and the cooled fluid circulated in the lower half of the container with essentially no flow between the two halves. in the case of backward thermosolutal flow,there was finger type flow upward from the lower half and downward from the upper half of the container. © 2014 pakistan journal of statistics.
