چکیده    Twenty advanced cultivars of cotton were screened against thrips tabaci under field conditions at cotton research institute, faisalabad during 2010. the results depicted that lowest population of thrips were on fh-118 followed by gn-2085 but highest population on fh-177 and fh-114 followed by fh-179. the other tested cultivars of cotton possessed population of thrips at almost of similar level. it means fh-118 and gn-2085 showed comparative resistance, fh-177, fh-114 and fh-179 susceptibility and the remaining varieties proved tolerance against thrips population. similarly its peak population was recorded on fh-114 followed by cim-496 at hundred days after crop sowing. fh-177 had the greatest number of thrips followed by fh-114 and fh-179 whereas fh-118 had the lowest number. fh-177, fh-114 and fh-179 were found susceptible, whereas fh-118 and gn-2085 proved resistance. all the other tested varieties tolerated the pest population.
