تاریخ شفاهی، روش گردآوی اطلاعات در تاریخ معاصر است و در تکمیل و پرکردن خلاهای اطلاعاتی منابع مکتوب و اسنادی، کاربرد ویژه‌ایی دارد. در این روش، پژوهشگر با مراجعه به شاهدان یا نقش‌آفرینان وقایع، علاوه بر اینکه روایت آنان را ثبت می‌کند، و از این مسیر به تولید منابع اطلاعاتی کمک می کند، امکان تفسیر در مورد اتفاقات و حوادث را فراهم می‌نماید و به مسائل پیرامونی وقایع نیز توجه دارد. از این روش به خوبی می توان برای استخراج و ثبت اطلاعات ناشی از سفرها و از جمله سفرهای زیارتی بهره زیادی برد.بقیع شناسی و بررسی تحولات تاریخی و اجتماعی آن به عنوان یک ضرورت کاملاً آشکار، می‌تواند با بهره‌گیری از تاریخ شفاهی، به تولید محتوا بپردازد و بانک اطلاعات ارزشمندی را در زمینه‌های مختلف؛ پیشینه تاریخی و تغییرات سازه‌ای، آداب و نحوه تشرف و چگونگی تعامل نیروهای امنیتی- انتظامی عربستان با زائرین و تغییرات فضایی را جهت پژوهش‌های بعدی در اختیار قراردهد. بر این اساس، این مقاله با استفاده از منابع کتابخانه‌ای- اسنادی و با روش تبیینی در پی پاسخ به این سوال اصلی است که :کاربست تاریخ شفاهی در مطالعات بقیع‌شناسی چیست؟
