Characteristics,diagnosis and therapeutic strategies for IgG4-related orbital disease

Thanks to detailed studies conducted in recent years,a new disease syndrome was identified in 2001. it is known as a igg4-related disease and its differentiation is based on the analysis of igg4 levels in the affected tissues. the igg4-related disease is considered to be a generalized pathological process involving a wide spectrum of various disorders that may affect distant organs. orbital igg4-related disease is a recently reported issue that may prove important for the elucidation of the etiology of idiopathic,lymphoplasmacytic or fibrotic disorders of various organs,including the orbits. in this article,we are describing epidemiology and differential diagnostics of igg4-related orbital disease with particular focus on pseudotumors,malt lymphomas and lymphocyte/plasma cell infiltrations of the orbit. we are also discussing therapeutic possibilities currently available in the management of the disease. © 2015 institute of pharmacology,polish academy of sciences. published by elsevier sp. z o.o. all rights reserved.
