Wind energy density in the southern,southwestern and western region of Turkey [Türki̇ye'ni̇n güney,güneybati ve bati bölgeleri̇ndeki̇ rüzgar enerji̇si̇ potansi̇yeli̇]

In this study,wind energy density of akhisar,bababurnu,belen,datça,foça,gelendost,gelibolu,gökçeada and söke districts which are located in the southern,southwestern and western region of turkey,was investigated statistically. the measured data were collected by the general directorate of electrical power resources survey administration (eie). the weibull and rayleigh probability density functions,and the wasp (wind atlas analysis and application program) packet program were used. the results obtained with these models were compared with the measured data. the weibull model and wasp program provide better power density estimations than rayleigh model for all stations. finally,it is found that these regions have a reasonable wind power potential and they are suitable for the plantation of wind energy turbines. ©2010 tibtd printed in turkey.
