Species composition of Culicoides Latreille,1809 (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) in thrace region of Turkey [Trakya bölgesi'nde (Türkiye) Culicoides Latreille,1809 (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) tür kompozisyonu]

This study was carried out in order to detect culicoides species in thrace region of turkey between agust-october 2004. in this study culicoides samples were collected by using light traps from istanbul,tekirdag,ki{dotless}rklareli,edirne,canakkale. a total of 10540 culicoides specimens composed of 10462 females and 78 males were collected and 13 species were identified as: c. newsteadi austen,1921,c. circumscriptus kieffer,1918,c. puncticollis (becker),1903,c. punctatus (meigen),1804,c. odiatus austen,1921,c. cataneii clastrier,1957,c. pulicaris (linnaeus),1758,c. obsoletus complex (meigen),1818,c. longipennis khalaf,1957,c. fagineus edwards,1939,c. festivipennis kieffer,1914,c. gejgelensis dzhafarov,1964 and c. parroti kieffer,1922. while the predominant species were found to be c. newsteadi (n=6740,63,95%) and c. obsoletus comp (n=2503,23,75%) respectively,c. parroti (n=6,0,057%),c. festivipennis (n=4,0,038%) and c. odiatus (n=2,0,019%) were determined relatively low numbers. the result of this study is the first finding of the species composition of culicoides in thrace region.
