Investigation of listeria species isolated from milk and vaginal swab samples of cows in the province of kars,Turkey [Kars yöresi si{dotless}ǧi{dotless}rlari{dotless}ndan ali{dotless}nan süt ve vajinal si{dotless}vap örneklerinden listeria türlerinin araşti{dotless}ri{dotless}lmasi{dotless}]

In this study,a total of 500 samples of milk and vaginal swabs from 250 cows from herds with a recent history of abortion,from villages administered by the city of kars and the town of selim,were used for culture isolation of listeria. the isolation was performed by the method described by food and drug administration (fda) method,using listeria enrichment broth (leb) and listeria selective agar (lsa). based on the results of isolation and identification,l. monocytogenes was present in only two of the milk samples (0.8%) while listeria spp. were isolated from 14 (5.6%) of the vaginal swab samples. among those 14 isolates,seven (2.8%),three (1.2%),two (0.8%) and two (0.8%) were identified as l monocytogenes,l. welshimeri,l. seeligeri and l. innocua,respectively. ten listeria isolates were originated from 96 cattle with the history of abortion. five out of 16 isolates were found to be positive by pcr for detecting iap gene.
