Regioselective one-pot bromination of 4,4-dimethyl-1-aryl-3-pentanones with [Bmim]Br3 or [BMPy]Br3 under solvent-free conditions

An efficient and environmentally benign bromination of 4,4-dimethyl-1-aryl- 3- pentanones with 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tribromide ([bmim]br3) or 1-butyl-3-methylpyridinium tribromide ([bmpy]br3) as the bromine source is elaborated. investigation of the protocol revealed that the method operates for the title carbonyl compounds producing the corresponding monobrominated products in good to excellent yields (90.2% ∼ 95.1%). the ionic liquids [bmim]br and [bmpy]br are recyclable and can be reused with minimal loss,which minimizes the use of organic solvents and enhances the chemical reactivity and selectivity.
