چکیده    Vitex agnus-castus linn. (verbenaceae) is locally known as hub-el-faked and sumbhalu-ke-bij. it is abundantly found in baluchistan (pakistan) and extensively used for medicinal purpose. methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (1) is a very well known compound, was isolated from the aerial parts of vitex agnus-castus. methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (1) was found to be a moderate immunomodulatory and non-cytotoxic activities. the activity was tested in vitro for chemiluminescence,chemotaxis,t-cell proliferation and cytotoxicity. methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (1) exhibited a moderate inhibitory effect on oxidative burst of neutrophils in a dose dependent manner. it was found to have a moderate suppressive effect on the chemotaxic action at lower concentrations on fmlp (10 -8 m) stimulated neutrophils. it also showed a suppressive effect on pha stimulated t-cell (pmbc).
