Fixed oil composition and biological screening of viola betonicifolia in different solvents

The aim of the paper to report a chemical study on fixed oils isolated from the n-hexane and chloroform/ ethyl acetate fractions of the whole plant viola betonicifolia by column chromatography. the chemical compositions of the crude fixed oils were determined by using gc and gc-ms analysis. the subfractions of oils (nm 1-6) were screened for their possible antibacterial,antifungal,phytotoxic,insecticidal,leishmanicidal and brine shrimp cytotoxicity. in antifungal assay,nm-4 and nm-6 fractions showed 30 and 40% inhibition against microsporum canis,while nm-6 exhibited 30% activity against candida albicans. a dose-dependent phytotoxic activity was recorded for fractions nm-1,nm-3 and nm-6. some subfractions showed low to moderate insecticidal activity against tribolium castaneum,rhyzopertha dominica and callosobruchus analis. nm-5 and nm-6 fractions were cytotoxic,with ld50 values of 175.341 and 160.734 μg/ml,respectively.
