چکیده    Purpose: to evaluate role of estradiol attenuating damages in injured-rats model. methods: all 40 rats were assigned into five group,including 17β-estradiol(7 or 14-day treatment group),vehicle group(7 or 14-day control group) and sham group(n=8). the 17β-estradiol (100μg/kg) or vehicle was s.c. injected to 17β-estradiol groups or vehicle group immediately after fluid percussion injury(fpi) for first time,and then 7-day group was s.c. injected with 17β-estradiol or vehicle for other 3 times every other 24 h,while 14-day group was s.c. injected other 7 times every other 24 h. rats were tested in a morris water maze (mwm) for their learning ability,followed with examined levels of trka and erα protein in cortex and hippocampus,respectively. results: compared to 17β-estradiol or sham group,there was a significant impairment of post-injury learning ability in vehicle group(p < 0.001),however,there was no significant difference between 17β-estradiol group(7-day treatment or 14-day treatment group) and sham group (p = 0.093 or p = 0.269). at same time,there was no difference between 17β-estradiol treatment for 7-day and 14-day(p = 0.509). the levels of trka and erα proteins in control groups were obviously lower compared to sham or treatment groups(p < 0.05),while no significant differentiation was observed in 17β-estradiol group (p > 0.05). conclusion: it indicates that 17β-estradiol can attenuate cognitive dysfunction perhaps by counteracting secondary impairments in injured brain by itself or erα and trka proteins in cortices and hippocampus.
