چکیده    Objective: investigate the relationship between the sleep quality and functional status and quality of life in patients with multiple sclerosis.material and method: the sf-36,the fim and the pittsburg sleep quality index (psqi) were used respectively in order to evaluate the quality of life for patients,to assess the functional status,to assess sleep quality.results: a total of 68 individuals included in the study. the average age of patients was 48.42 ± 10.09 years. sleep disturbance was detected in 36 patients (52.9%),and sleep disturbance was not detected in 32 patients (47.1%). avarage age were significantly higher in ms patients with sleep disorders than without sleep disorders (p <0.05). no difference was detected in terms of sociodemographic characteristics (gender,marital status,disease duration). iliteracy,spasticity,clonus and nocturia were significantly higher in ms patients with sleep disorders than without sleep disorders (p <0.05). plaque located in the brain stem were significantly higher in ms patients with sleep disorders than without sleep disorders (p <0.05). the value of all sub-parameters of quality of life scale sf-36 and total value,fim scores were significantly lower in patients with sleep disorders than without sleep disorders (p <0.05).conclusion: advanced age,low education level,spasticity,clonus,nocturia,the involvement of the brain stem,reduces sleep quality in patients with multiple sclerosis. poor sleep quality lead to reduced functionalities and deterioration of the quality of life. © 2014 ege university press. all rights reserved.
