Results: female/ male ratio was 2/1,mean age was 59.5. meningothelial (58.4%),transitional (16%),fibrous (4.8%) subtypes were most frequent ones. of the 125 cases,64.8% were located in cerebral convexity,12% were in sphenoid wing. grade distrubution was as follows: grade i (89.6%),grade ii (9.6%),grade iii (0.8%). we found statistically significant results between parenchymal invasion,necrosis,ki67 index, histologic subtype and grade (p<0.01). recurrent tumor was seen in 16 (12.8%),residual tumor was seen in 11 (8.8%) cases. grade, parenchymal invasion,mitosis,ki67 proliferation index were statistically significantly correlated with disease free survival (p=0.00).conclusion: as a result our findings are consistent with the literature. the most useful criteria in grading meningiomas is mitosis. the criteria including small cell, sheeting, prominent nucleoli seem not very useful for the diagnosis of atypical meningiomas. current world health organization classification has not included ki67 proliferation index in grading although it seems as a useful criteria in predicting clinical outcome.objective: meningiomas are extremely common tumors originating from meningeal coverings of the brain and spinal cord. histopathological examination and grading of meningiomas give valuable prognostic information. the aim of this study was to evaluate clinical and histopathological parameters in meningiomas, find out significant factors impact on recurrence free survival.materials and methods: 125 consecutive meningioma cases diagnosed at izmir tepecik training and research hospital between 2007 and 2012 were selected. histopathological and clinical features were reevaluated. follow up radiology records were reviewed to determine residual and recurrent tumor. © 2014,ege university press. all rights reserved.
