Pseudomonas putida infection at lomber paravertebral soft tissue in an healty adult patient: A rare case report and review of literature [Sağlıklı erişkinde lomber paravertebral yumuşak dokuda pseudomonas putida enfeksiyonu : Nadir bir olgu sunumu ve literatürün gözden geçirilmesi]

Background: pseudomonas putida is saprophytic,fluorescent,gram negative,opportunistic bacteria,that primarily causes nosocomial infections. because of potential bio-control characteristic it is used in plants for pythium and fucarium infections treatment. pseudomonas putida is mostly found in contaminated fluids and habitats with higher humidity and oxygen. optimal temperature for pseudomonas putida is 25-30°c. because of 37°c body temperature it is a rare cause of clinical infection in a healthy person.case: a 34-years-old man was admitted to a hospital in cyprus with a swelling,redness,pain lumbar paravertebral region without any other complaint. investigations revealed a lumbar paravertebral abscess at l4 level. it was tired to drain with the help of usg but because of viscosity,the abscess couldn't be drained via percutaneous technic and referred to our clinic. we performed operation for drainage of the paravertebral yellow-brown,high density abscess at l4 level. pseudomonas putida was isolated that was sensitive for ceftazidime,cefepime,imipenem,meropenem,ciprofloxacin,ticarciline. the patient was treated with ceftazidime for 14 days intravenously and with ciprofloxacin orally for four weeks. no evidence for abscess was detected for 12 months follow up period.conclusion: pseudomonas putida is a rare pathogen for human beings in far east asia during flood disaster. to our knowledge this case is the first case in the english literature that pseudomonas putida was isolated at the paravertebral region without any intervention in a healthy person. it is treated successfully with suitable antibiotics. © 2015,ege university press. all rights reserved.
