چکیده    Background: epidural scar adhesion following posterior spinal surgery is an important complication that remains a challenging problem during postoperative recovery. the aim of this experimental study was to evaluate the favorable efficacy of topical application of contractubex® gel in reducing epidural scar adhesion following laminectomy in rats using a microsurgical dissection technique and histopathological examination materials and methods: in this study, forty rats were randomly divided into two groups,a control group and a treatment group. laminectomy was performed between the l3 and l5 levels. in the control group, only laminectomy was performed, and no treatment was administered. in the treatment group, contractubex gel was applied in the epidural space. after four weeks, ten rats were selected from each group and anesthetized for morphological evaluation; the surgical sites were then reopened using a surgical microscope. the epidural scar adhesion was assessed by a neurosurgeon blinded to the treatment groups using the rydell classification system. histopathological analysis was performed on the remaining ten rats in each group. the extent of epidural scar adhesion and fibroblast density were histopathologically evaluated and graded.results: epidural scar adhesion was significantly reduced in the group treated with contractubex compared with the control group. conclusion: our study demonstrated that topical application of contractubex significantly inhibits fibroblast infiltration and reduces the formation of epidural fibrosis and adhesions, based on macroscopic evaluation and histopathological analysis following laminectomy in rats. however, further research on the clinical use of contractubex is needed. © 2015,ege university press. all rights reserved.
