|
Water deficit stress is one of the major environmental stress conditions faced by sessile land plants. acquisition of resistance to this stress enabled plants to settle into terrestrial habitats. dehydration stress is a specific form of water deficit stress. a number of functionally characterized genes are involved in dehydration response pathway. here we report a novel dehydration responsive transcript from tossa jute (corcohrus olitorius l.) which shows reduced expression under dehydration stress. study of tissue specific expression revealed that the transcript is expressed in root,shoot and leaf under normal conditions. search for known homologues of the transcript failed to identify functionally characterized counterparts in any other plant species.
