In this work, a new cloud point extraction (c.pe) method was developed for the separation . . .and preconcentration or cerium from aqueous solutions. the methodology used is basedon the formation of cerium 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-hq) complex that is extracted into themicellar phase (triton x-114) at a temperature above the cloud point temperature (cpt).after phase separation, the surfactant rich phase was diluted up to 1.0 1111 and studied byinductivelycoupled plasma-optical emissionspectrometry (icp-oes). under the optimum. . ..extraction conditions and instrumental parameters, by prcconcentration of only 10.0 ml ofsample in the presence of 0.1% triton x-114, an enhancement factor of 11.0 was obtained.the analytical curve was linear in the range 01'3 ...,.1500 ~tg l and the detection limit was 1.0ug l. the proposed method was applied to the determination of cerium in water sampleswith satisfactory results
