ادب و تعارف در ایران

در پژوهش های معمول بین‌المللی درباره politeness، رفتار مودبانه در ایران هم مورد بحث قرار گرفته است و محور این پژوهش ها تعارف بوده است. تعارف به طور معمول به «iranian politeness» تعریف شده است. نگارنده تلاش می‌کند یک دیدگاه متفاوت را ارائه کند، چونکه می‌توان بین ادب (رفتار مودبانه) و تعارف تفاوت قائل شد و این تمایز منحصراً از طریق اصطلاحات قابل تشخیص نیست، بلکه به عوامل مختلف  مهمی بستگی دارد. در ارزیابی رفتار اجتماعی‌ و تمایز بین ادب و رفتار تعارفی، محیط، موقعیت، زبان بدن و چهره و به ویژه لحن نقش اساسی دارند. پس رفتار مودبانه و تعارف تحت یک گفتمان اجتماعی مدام و مستمر بین آن آدم‌هایی که با هم درارتباط هستند صورت می‌گیرد.
