Abstract
this research aims to analyze the narrative structure of persian epistolary novels and to elucidate the role of polyphony in this literary genre, based on mikhail bakhtin's theory of polyphony. the theoretical framework of the study primarily rests on bakhtin's concepts of polyphony and heteroglossia, which emphasize the importance of interaction and coexistence of independent voices and perspectives within a text. the research methodology combines a descriptive-analytical approach with case studies of prominent examples of persian epistolary novels. in this regard, the communicative nature of the epistolary form (letters, emails, text messages, etc.) has been examined as the main ground for the emergence of polyphony. the specific findings of the research indicate that the epistolary structure inherently possesses a high capacity for creating and displaying multiple and distinct character voices; an issue that directly impacts the enhancement of narrative suspense, the richness of characterization, and the representation of the complexity of reality. furthermore, the research showed that the evolution of the epistolary form towards new media has strengthened this polyphonic capability in contemporary iranian literature and provided new possibilities for expanding narrative meaning. finally, this study confirms that the epistolary novel, by leveraging its form and polyphony, has played a prominent role in elevating narrative structures and genres in contemporary iranian literature.
