Electrodeposition of actinides for alpha spectrometry

The aim of this study was to investigate the electrodeposition of u and am onto stainless steel cathodes. the nuclides are deposited as hydroxides, which is applicable to other soluble actinides in ammonium sulfateammonium oxalate electrolyte. to determine the optimum conditions for the electrodeposition methods, parameters affecting the yield such as time, current, electrolyte concentration, electrode spacing, and ph were studied. the conditions selected with nearly 80% yield were: 0.2 m ammonium oxalate at ph = 2 and 2 h electrodeposition time at 1a with the electrode spacing of 1 cm.
