Abstract    in recent decades، the intensification of climate change، greenhouse gas emissions،environmental pollution، and the occurrence of natural disasters have introduced new dimensions of threats to economic sustainability and quality of life. the human development index (hdi) serves as an appropriate tool for assessing the impacts of these risks on the development trajectory of countries. this study compares selected developed net food-importing and net food-exporting countries during the period 2010–2019،employing panel data regression models. the analysis focuses on the growth rates of key variables، including disease burden (dalys)، welfare costs of premature deaths attributed to natural disasters and environmental pollution، out-of-pocket health expenditures، average annual temperature changes، emissions from fossil fuel combustion، environmental protection expenditures، and environmental taxes as determining factors within the analytical framework. these variables may directly or indirectly influence the growth of the hdi. the effects of these phenomena، ranging from individual health outcomes to macroeconomic policy، are reflected in hdi dynamics. the results indicate that while the negative and significant effects of the growth of welfare costs of premature deaths due to natural disasters (high temperature and cold temperature) and environmental pollution (ambient particulate matter and ground-level ozone)، as well as the growth of disease burden، are evident in the selected developed countries، the adverse impacts of these variables on hdi growth are stronger in developed net food-exporting countries than indeveloped net food-importing countries.
