Abstract
the present study was conducted with the aim of designing and evaluating an intelligent framework based on machine learning for analyzing and comparing executive functions of the brain in musician and non-musician children. this causal-comparative study was performed on 120 twelve-year-old children in shiraz, including 60 children with a history of six years of regular music training and 60 children without formal music education. the two groups were matched for age, iq, and socioeconomic status. the components of response inhibition, working memory, and cognitive flexibility were extracted using standard stroop, wisconsin, and wechsler digit span tests and were used as inputs to an intelligent cognitive analysis system. in the first stage, classical statistical analyses revealed significant differences in favor of musician children in all components of executive functions (p < 0.05), with some indicators showing very large effect sizes (|d| > 2). in the next step, to model multidimensional patterns, enhance generalization power, and enable group prediction, an ensemble learning model based on the bagging algorithm was employed. cross-validation results showed that the proposed system could classify the two groups with an accuracy of 93.75% and an auc value of 0.991. furthermore, feature importance analysis based on tree-based criteria identified components related to response accuracy and reduction of cognitive errors as the most important differentiating factors. these findings indicate that integrating psychometric data with explainable artificial intelligence systems can provide an effective platform for analyzing cognitive development, predicting executive performance, and supporting intelligent decision-making in digital education and data-driven cognitive interventions.
