Abstract
artificial intelligence has fundamentally transformed the field of sustainable information security, creating a paradigm shift that has pushed traditional reactive and rule-based approaches to predictive and learning frameworks. the main capabilities of this technology lie in analyzing huge volumes of data to identify anomalies in real time, classify malware, and detect complex intrusion patterns; such that empirical studies have reported detection success rates between 85 and 99%. despite these advantages, ai-based security systems face significant limitations, the most important of which is the “black box effect”, a phenomenon in which the lack of transparency and explainability of algorithms undermines public trust and challenges legal accountability. in addition, the vulnerability of neural networks to adversarial attacks and data poisoning is a serious limitation; because attackers can exploit weaknesses in models to circumvent defenses. the ethical implications of deploying ai in sustainable security are also profound, encompassing concerns such as algorithmic bias, the potential for widespread surveillance through behavioral biometrics, and the “accountability gap” in automated decision-making. adherence to legal and regulatory frameworks—such as the general data protection regulation—is essential to ensure respect for human rights and individual dignity. ultimately, the effective use of ai as a security tool requires a governance-driven, multi-stakeholder approach that balances technological efficiency with ethical design and human oversight.
