Abstract
in today s world, with the rapid advancement of technology and industry, it is essential to extract requirements from documents, emails, questionnaires, user stories, and other sources. manual processes for requirements elicitation are no longer sufficient to meet the needs of the software engineering domain, as they are both time-consuming and error-prone. with the emergence of machine learning and deep learning algorithms, coupled with the advent of natural language processing and large language models, the task of requirements extraction has become simpler and more accurate for engineers. in automated methods for identifying specific entities, an ai model reads textual documentation and identifies and classifies important terms, such as the names of modules, hardware, software, and users. this structured information is then used in the future to prevent rework and to enable better requirements management. studies indicate that various language and ai models, when used in combination, can yield superior results. however, within the different sub-domains of requirements engineering, the specific entities to be extracted vary significantly. consequently, methods developed for one domain are sometimes not generalizable to others, and rework can occur even in similar domains. this paper outlines the strengths, weaknesses, and challenges of existing methods.
