Abstract
this study investigated the effects of different stocking densities (25, 50, 75, and 100 fish per 200-l tank) in a biofloc system on water quality, growth performance, blood parameters, and immune indices of common carp (initial weight: 17 g). the control treatment with a density of 25 fish was maintained in a conventional culture system (with water exchange and 35% protein diet). in the biofloc system, a carbon-to-nitrogen ratio of 20:1 and a low-protein diet (25%) were used. total ammonia and nitrite levels in biofloc treatments with densities of 25, 50, and 75 fish were significantly lower than in the control (p < 0.05), while nitrate increased in these treatments. no significant differences were observed in final weight, specific growth rate (sgr), and feed conversion ratio (fcr) among the control, d25, and d50 treatments (p > 0.05). the highest protein efficiency ratio (per) was recorded in d25 and d50 treatments, while the lowest was observed in the control and d100. hepatic enzyme levels, hemoglobin, hematocrit, total protein, and complement components (c3 and c4) showed no significant differences among treatments (p > 0.05). however, serum albumin decreased and globulin increased in biofloc treatments, likely indicating stimulation of the immune system by microbial flocs. based on growth performance and physiological parameters, a stocking density of 50 fish per tank (4.25 kg/m³) is recommended as the optimal point.
