Abstract
the use of agricultural by-products has gained a special place in aquatic feeding systems due to their relatively lower cost compared to animal waste and cereals. the use of these products, especially in arid and semi-arid regions of the world, in addition to providing part of the nutrients required by aquatic animals, also reduces the cost of producing aquatic products. one of these products is compost and mushroom waste, which is considered an undesirable by-product in edible mushroom production centers and is often destroyed by various methods such as burning or burying. under such conditions, in addition to environmental pollution, the nutrients contained in these wastes are also wasted. in a study, the use of replacing edible mushroom waste powder (agaricus bisporus) instead of fish meal on the growth performance of red tilapia (oreochromis niloticus) was investigated. for this purpose, 5 diet treatments with different percentages of edible mushroom waste and a density of 20 fish per aquarium were carried out with a breeding period of 8 weeks. the final weight, final length, weight gain percentage, specific growth rate and feed conversion ratio showed that the treatments in which 20% of fish meal was replaced by mushroom powder waste had better growth performance than the other treatments and the control treatment (p<0.05). also, serum immune indices (complement and lysozyme) had higher values compared to the control. the parameters of total protein, albumin and globulin in blood serum were not affected by mushroom waste (p<0.05).
