effects of different dietary sodium diformate levels on growth performance, body composition, and biochemical indices in fingerling common carp (cyprinus carpio)

Authors
Abstract    the present study investigated the effects of different levels of sodium diformate salt on common carp (cyprinus carpio). a total of 180 fish with an average weight of 17±0.17 g were randomly distributed into 12 fiberglass tanks (20 fish per 300-l tank) and fed experimental diets containing different levels of sodium diformate salt (0 [control], 2.5, 5.0, and 7.5 g/kg diet) to satiation three times daily for 56 days. at the end of the trial, growth indices, nutritional indices, body biochemical composition, and plasma biochemical parameters including glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, albumin, protein, aspartate aminotransferase (ast), alanine aminotransferase (alt), as well as antioxidant defense system indices including catalase, malondialdehyde (mda), and superoxide dismutase (sod) were measured. results showed that the addition of 5 g/kg sodium diformate significantly improved final body weight, weight gain percentage, specific growth rate, feed efficiency, protein efficiency ratio, feed conversion ratio, daily feed intake, and daily protein intake compared to the control group (p < 0.05). however, no significant differences were observed in body biochemical composition, plasma biochemical parameters, or antioxidant defense system indices compared to the control group (p > 0.05). therefore, based on the improvement in feed efficiency, protein efficiency, and consequently final growth performance, the inclusion of 5 g/kg sodium diformate in diet formulation is recommended to achieve maximum growth in common carp.
