evaluation of the sensitivity and performance of an automatic sonar recognition system based on the k-nearest neighbor algorithm in multiclass classification problems

Authors
Abstract    sonar data processing is used to detect and track targets whose echoes are unstable, so that their detection by conventional tracking methods is not reliable. recently, the use of artificial intelligence methods has effectively improved the accuracy of underwater target detection compared to conventional sonar target detection methods that have low robustness and accuracy. in this study, the effect of different k values on the performance of the k-nearest neighbor (knn) algorithm on sonar data with a real multi-class structure is investigated for the first time. in this paper, the k-nearest neighbor algorithm and the effect of k value are used to improve the classification of sonar data in complex problems such as marine target detection. the results of the basic machine learning models and hybrid models are compared with the proposed model. considering that the targets and databases are different, the average detection rate is taken as the benchmark. in this comparison, the analytical parameters of accuracy, coverage, f1 score, and precision were considered and examined to show the superior performance of the proposed method compared to other methods.
