Abstract
the rapid spread of misinformation on social platforms such as x poses a serious threat to democratic structures and public health. this challenge has been intensified by the change in x’s ownership in 2022 and the shift of its algorithms toward engagement-oriented approaches. previous studies have often focused on analyzing textual content or network structures, while overlooking the complex dynamics of news dissemination such as the influence of algorithms and user behavior. this article systematically reviews and categorizes existing research in the field of misinformation detection and proposes a novel three-stage conceptual framework for detecting misinformation in the news dissemination process on the x platform. this framework integrates key communication theories, including the diffusion of innovations, uses and gratifications, and the two-step flow theory, with advanced artificial intelligence techniques. the proposed hybrid approach analyzes misinformation from three perspectives: content (through natural language processing and sentiment analysis), dissemination (using graph neural networks to model diffusion patterns), and behavior (with explainable ai for transparency). to illustrate the framework, a hypothetical case study about nuclear war rumors in iran in june 2025 is employed. without empirical implementation or analysis of real data, this conceptual model provides a theoretical foundation for developing transparent and reliable digital ecosystems in future research.
