improving network embedding by combining structural and local information in graph neural networks

Authors
Abstract    graph neural networks (gnns) are powerful tools for analyzing structured data; however, they still face limitations in capturing structural roles, particularly in scenarios with low homophily or incomplete node features. these challenges highlight the need for approaches that can simultaneously integrate both local and structural information in the learning process. in this study, we introduce a novel network embedding model, incorporating modifications in the architecture and message aggregation mechanisms to enhance graph feature extraction. the proposed method leverages a structural similarity matrix alongside the adjacency matrix and node features, enabling the model to jointly exploit local information and structural patterns. to evaluate its performance, the improved model was evaluated on five benchmark datasets actor, cornell, cora, wisconsin, and texas under both feature-present and feature-absent settings, and compared with several baseline methods mlp, gcn, gat, and geom-gcn. experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves higher accuracy and stability in node classification compared to baseline methods, while maintaining computational efficiency. these findings underscore the importance of jointly utilizing structural information and local features for advancing graph learning
