Abstract
in recent years, the issue of optimizing energy consumption in street lighting systems has received significant attention from managers and experts in the country’s power industry. this focus intensified after the ministry of energy, in 2002, issued a directive to all regional and distribution electricity companies, limiting lighting specification parameters and mandating the measurement of lighting levels in newly constructed and existing streets nationwide. these efforts marked an important step toward collecting the necessary data to optimize street lighting, and regional and distribution electricity companies gradually began conducting measurements with the assistance of consulting firms. providing lighting for streets and public pathways is considered one of the major electricity consumption sectors. considering that these lights typically operate during the early evening hours, optimizing their performance not only improves the quality of street illumination but also plays an effective role in reducing peak load. to optimize street lighting systems, it is first essential to identify existing challenges and deficiencies, and then take the necessary steps to address them. with the development of smart systems and the use of modern control equipment, it is now possible to have full visibility and data analysis of output information, enabling comprehensive control over street-lighting feeders. in effect, true automation of urban street lighting can be achieved, allowing for remote, real-time monitoring and control of load conditions
