Abstract
transformers are among the most critical components in power distribution networks, and their unstable operation can lead to reduced efficiency and increased maintenance costs. major causes of transformer degradation include overloading, temperature rise, winding hot spots, moisture ingress, and oil-level reduction, all of which shorten insulation life and affect reliability. in this study, a cost-effective method is proposed for real-time monitoring of distribution transformers using controllable smart panels and existing software-based network platforms. the system measures key parameters such as temperature, current, humidity, and oil level, and provides early fault detection and automated alarms without any physical modification to transformer structures. technical and economic analysis shows that the implementation cost is less than two percent of the transformer’s value, while preventing the failure of a single unit can compensate for deploying multiple systems. the proposed method enhances network reliability, reduces outages and maintenance costs, and improves operational safety and customer satisfaction in power distribution systems. keywords: controllable distribution panels, hotspots, power distribution networks, transformers.
