Abstract
|
given the increasing penetration of renewable energy sources and the dynamic stability challenges arising from weak local grids and the intermittent nature of these sources, voltage source converter-based high-voltage direct current (vsc-hvdc) transmission technology has emerged as an optimal solution for integrating these sources due to its advantages, including independent control of active and reactive power and its capability to operate with weak networks. this paper presents a systematic framework for the mathematical modeling and linearization of a single-machine infinite-bus power system equipped with a vsc-hvdc link. first, the nonlinear dynamic equations of the system, comprising the electromechanical dynamics of the generator (based on a modified phillips–heffron model) and the power electronic dynamics of the vsc converters, are derived using the park transformation in the rotating dq frame reference frame. subsequently, by applying a first-order taylor series expansion around an equilibrium operating point, a linearized state-space model of the system is obtained. the comprehensive linear model includes seven key state variables (such as rotor angle, speed, internal voltage, and dc-link voltages and currents) and four converter control inputs, resulting in analytically derived state (a) and input (b) matrices with dimensions (14 × 14) and (4 × 14), respectively. the proposed linearized model serves as an effective tool for small-signal stability analysis through eigenvalue computation and system dynamic assessment. this framework can be effectively utilized as a foundation for the design and optimization of advanced controllers in hybrid ac-dc power systems with high penetration of renewable energy sources (res-hvdc)
