Abstract
multiple classification systems have gained a special place in machine learning due to their ability to increase accuracy and generalizability. however, the main challenge in these systems is to design an efficient mechanism for dynamic selection or optimal combination of classifier outputs. traditional methods such as majority voting or fixed weight assignment are often unable to adapt to the complexity and uncertainty of real environments. this paper systematically reviews the role of learning automata as an intelligent and adaptable tool to solve this challenge. learning automata, by utilizing the principles of reinforcement learning in stochastic environments, have the ability to learn the optimal distribution of actions (selection or weighting of classifiers) through interaction with the environment and receiving feedback. in this review, we have identified and categorized the main patterns of integration by extensively reviewing the authoritative literature. these patterns include using learning automata as a dynamic selector to select the most effective classifier for each input sample, employing it as a dynamic weighted combiner to automatically assign confidence levels to classifiers, and more advanced architectures such as hierarchical learning automata. the findings of this study show that the integration of learning automata with classification systems leads to superior performance compared to static combination methods in a wide range of applications such as image processing, anomaly detection, and text classification. these hybrid systems exhibit remarkable flexibility and robustness, especially when faced with noisy, non-stationary, and high-dimensional data. finally, this paper discusses current challenges such as computational complexity and parameter tuning, and suggests future research directions, including integration with deep learning and application to cyber-physical systems.
