effects of hydroalcoholic extract of nigella sativa on fertility potential in type 1 diabetic mice

Studies have shown that reproductive system performance is reduced under the influence of diabetes. in this research, the effect of hydroalcoholic extract of black seed (nigella sativa) on sperm quality and fertility indices in male syrian mice with type 1 diabetes was investigated. in this experimental study, 25 male syrian mice with an average weight of 26 ± 2 g were randomly divided into 5 groups of 5: group 1: control, receiving physiological serum. group 2: diabetic control, receiving physiological serum. groups 3, 4, and 5: diabetic mice treated with doses of 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg of hydroalcoholic black seed extract. key sperm health indices were then evaluated. the use of hydroalcoholic black seed extract at doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg showed a significant increase in sperm count and the percentage of live sperm in the epididymal tail. additionally, a reduction in sperm dna damage, a decrease in sperm immaturity, a decrease in malondialdehyde levels, and an increase in testosterone levels were observed (p < 0.05). in the examinations, the effect of hydroalcoholic black seed extract on improving sperm fertility indices and fertility rate in diabetic mice was observed.
