چکیده    Liver disorders frequently occur in both dogs and cats. there are many possible causes, including infections from viruses, bacteria, and parasites, exposure to toxins, cancerous developments, and medications such as phenobarbital, nsaids, and steroids. the approach to treatment and the outlook for liver disease depend on its root cause. nonetheless, many cases can be effectively managed due to the remarkable ability of the liver to regenerate. in this regard, medicinal plants such as silybum marianum may be helpful as hepatoprotective due to their bioactive compounds with antioxidant properties. silybum marianum is recognized for its pharmacological benefits in treating liver disease in humans, but it is also applied in veterinary medicine. this review presents an overview of the experimental findings regarding the effects of silybum marianum extract on small animals. some studies have indicated no effects, but none have noted issues associated with the use of silybum marianum extract. nevertheless, the general consensus indicates that incorporating silybum marianum extract leads to enhanced or regained health indicators or improved performance in small animals. a recommended dosage of 50-250 mg per day is advised for dogs and cats suffering from liver disorders.
