Abstract
in recent decades, environmental crises, overconsumption of resources, and thespread of pollutants have led to the emergence of green chemistry as one of the keypillars of sustainable development in chemical sciences. green chemistry education notonly emphasizes teaching safe and environmentally friendly reactions and processes butalso aims to foster ethical and ecological awareness among students. meanwhile, thearrival of generation z (born approximately between 1995 and 2010), with its distinctcognitive and digital characteristics, has introduced new challenges to chemistryeducation. this generation, having grown up with digital technology, learns throughinteraction, visualization, immediacy, and open access to information.in this context, integrating green chemistry with emerging technologies such asartificial intelligence (ai), augmented reality (ar), virtual reality (vr), andblended learning offers new opportunities for transforming educational systems. thisreview article, based on recent persian and english sources (2015–2025), analyzes therole of new technologies in green chemistry education and examines how these alignwith generation z’s learning style. findings from recent studies indicate that the use ofinnovative technologies can enhance critical thinking, increase learning motivation, andpromote sustainable environmental behaviors among students. finally, the paperpresents recommendations for localizing green chemistry education within iran’seducational system.
