Abstract
chemistry and nanotechnology, as key sciences, play a pivotal role in everyday life andtechnological advancement in areas such as food, medicine, energy, water purification, and even neurochemical processes of human emotions. however, due to unengagingand theory-heavy teaching methods in k-12 education, lack of public awareness, andinsufficient portrayal of real-world applications, societal understanding of chemistryremains limited, and its industry has the lowest popularity, which has led to scantresearch on adult perceptions and reduced social engagement. in higher education, didactic models serve as analytical tools for curriculum design, content selection, andassessment, guiding educators in addressing key questions of 'why,' 'what,' and 'how,'and linking to the concept of bildung (formation of knowledge, values, and culture) andscientific literacy (knowledge, utility, and social application). these models bridgetheory and practice. but face challenges such as high cognitive load in laboratories, weak theory-practice linkage, isolation of instructors, and lack of support, whichdiminish effectiveness. transferring research findings to practice requires systematictrials and resources. nanotechnology, involving the study and manipulation of materialsat the 1 to 100 nanometer scalewith unique properties such as high surface-to-volumeratio and catalytic features, has driven transformations in medicine, electronics, energy, and pollutant removal. its integration into chemistry education, throughinterdisciplinary and hands-on courses such as nanoscale mechanics using atomic forcemicroscopy techniques and fabricating nanofilters, enhances conceptual understandingbut encounters obstacles like complexity, shortage of educational strategies, and theneed for instructor training.
