analysis of the failure behavior and factors influencing the occurrence of road pavement failure

This report presents a comprehensive analysis of the failure behavior and the critical factors influencing the occurrence of road pavement deterioration. the premature failure of pavements poses significant economic and safety challenges, leading to increased maintenance costs, vehicle operating expenses, and user discomfort. through a methodology combining visual condition surveys, analysis of common failure modes such as rutting, fatigue cracking, and potholes, and a review of contributing elements, this study identifies and evaluates the primary determinants of pavement performance. the investigation concludes that pavement failure is not attributable to a single cause but is a complex interplay of factors, predominantly excessive and repeated traffic loads, environmental stresses including moisture infiltration and temperature fluctuations, and inherent shortcomings in construction quality and material specifications. the findings underscore the critical importance of integrated pavement management strategies that emphasize robust design, strict quality control during construction, effective drainage systems, and proactive, timely maintenance to enhance pavement longevity, ensure user safety, and optimize lifecycle costs.
