probabilistic estimation of peak ground acceleration in kerman city using selected global ground-motion models: results and comparison

Authors
Abstract    one of the key steps in probabilistic seismic hazard assessment (psha) is the selection of appropriate ground-motion models (gmms) for estimating strong-ground-motion parameters. the gmms adopted in this study are those that have been widely applied in iran in recent years. in this research, the probabilistic estimation of peak ground acceleration (pga) for a site in kerman city was carried out using well-established gmms, corresponding to a hazard level of 10% probability of exceedance in 50 years (dbe), and the results were subsequently compared. for this purpose, the region bounded by 28.5°–34° n and 54°–59° e was selected, and all calculations were performed for soil type i according to the iranian standard 2800 soil classification. after identifying the seismic sources and determining their seismicity parameters, the dbe pga values derived from the 2008 versions of the campbell & bozorgnia, chiou & youngs, and boore & atkinson gmms were 0.39 g, 0.37 g, and 0.32 g, respectively. for the 2014 versions of the campbell & bozorgnia, chiou & youngs, and atkinson & boore models, the pga values were obtained as 0.54 g, 0.31 g, and 0.33 g, respectively. given the substantial difference between the pga values predicted by the 2008 and 2014 versions of the campbell & bozorgnia model (a discrepancy of approximately 0.15 g), the exclusive use of the 2014 campbell & bozorgnia gmm, or its application with equal weighting in a logic-tree framework for the kerman region, is not recommended.
