investigation of the thermo-hydraulic performance of two-layer helical microchannels in solar cooling systems

Authors
Abstract    this study investigates the thermal-hydraulic performance of a two-layer helical microchannel heat sink using microencapsulated phase change material (mpcm) slurry as a coolant. the main objective is to evaluate the simultaneous effects of heat flux, coolant type, and the presence of porous media on heat transfer and pressure drop within the microchannels. numerical simulations were conducted using ansys fluent, and the governing equations were solved using the finite volume method. the results show that the use of porous media and slurry instead of water significantly increases the nusselt number, while higher heat flux leads to a decrease in the nusselt number. additionally, the combination of mpcm slurry and porous media results in the greatest improvement in thermal performance and reduction in microchannel wall temperature. these findings confirm the high efficiency of microencapsulated pcm slurry and porous media in enhancing heat transfer with acceptable pressure drop providing an effective solution for the design of microelectronic cooling systems.
