Abstract
the accelerating growth of urbanization and the expansion of apartment living have significantly impacted the mental health of residents. this article, adopting an analytical-comparative review approach, examines the vital role of natural light in the interior architecture of residential units in relation to residents' mental well-being. scientific evidence indicates that natural light, as the primary synchronizer of the human biological clock, plays a critical role in regulating the circadian rhythm and modulating the secretion of hormones like melatonin and serotonin. the main objective is the development of an integrated conceptual design framework that can promote residents' mental health by integrating physiological findings and physical architectural components. in this regard, a design model based on bio-environmental synchronization is introduced through a comparative analysis of quantitative daylight metrics (such as udi) with mental health theories (such as biophilia). the conclusions provide practical recommendations for designers and standard developers to improve the quality of daylight and enhance the mood and sleep quality of residents.
