Abstract
climate change exerts substantial impacts on groundwater resources, directly influencing demand and utilization patterns. these effects encompass alterations in precipitation and runoff regimes, sea-level rise, land-use modifications, and population displacement. groundwater, as the primary freshwater resource, plays a critical role in meeting domestic, agricultural, and industrial water requirements. research demonstrates that climate change significantly affects subsurface hydrology, surface water-groundwater interactions, and water quality. by 2025, approximately 5 billion people will reside in countries experiencing water stress, where climate change will impose additional pressures on their water resources. this study examines the direct and indirect impacts of climate change on groundwater resources, investigates the role of groundwater in sea-level rise, analyzes the challenges and opportunities of utilizing groundwater in climate change adaptation strategies, and emphasizes the necessity of enhanced groundwater observations and data collection for improved understanding of groundwater-climate relationships. overall, the primary objective of this research is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the interaction between groundwater and climate change, and to identify vulnerabilities and strengths in this domain.
