review of evaluation and results of dynamic cone penetration tests and data analysis using artificial intelligence

Authors
Abstract    the dynamic cone penetrometer (dcp) is one of the widely used geotechnical tools that, due to its simplicity, high speed, and low cost, has gained significant attention in field projects, especially in remote and critical areas. in this method, by applying successive hammer blows to a steel cone, the amount of soil penetration is recorded and used to estimate mechanical parameters such as the california bearing ratio (cbr), resilient modulus (mr), shear strength, and internal friction angle. in this paper, the various types of dynamic cone penetrometers, related standards, and their operating mechanisms are first reviewed. given the importance of analyzing and modeling data obtained from the dcp test, different processing approaches including statistical analyses, numerical methods, artificial intelligence, and machine learning are also described. furthermore, the limitations and challenges associated with these tests are discussed, and finally, a summary and recommendations for future research are presented to help pave the way for upcoming studies in this field.
