exploring the impact of conceptual teaching on reducing newtonian misconceptions: a pedagogical content knowledge (pck)-based approach among pre-service physics teachers

Authors
Abstract    this study investigates the impact of conceptual teaching grounded in pedagogical content knowledge (pck) on reducing newtonian misconceptions among pre-service physics teachers. using a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design, 100 undergraduate students from farhangian university participated in the research. two parallel versions of a concept inventory—adapted from the force concept inventory (fci)—were administered before and after a six-session pck-based instructional intervention. quantitative analysis of responses revealed significant improvements across all assessed domains: understanding of relative motion increased by 26.5%, momentum by 26%, newton’s first law by 24.5%, newton’s second law (f=ma) by 34%, and newton’s third law by 29%. the greatest gains were observed in newton’s second law, while relative motion remained the most persistent misconception. these findings underscore the effectiveness of pck-informed instruction in addressing deeply rooted conceptual misunderstandings and suggest its potential for integration into pre-service teacher education programs to enhance future physics instruction.
