from luminescence to photoluminescence: exploring nonlinear optical phenomena in quantum dots by density functional theory (dft) method

Authors
Abstract    luminescence, defined as photon emission induced by non-thermal excitation, exhibits distinctly luminescence is one of the fundamental phenomena in optical physics, describing the emission of photons from a material as a result of non-thermal excitation. under intense optical irradiation, this process may exhibit nonlinear behavior, thus attracting considerable interest in the field of nonlinear optics. recent studies have revealed that quantum dots (qds), owing to their discrete energy levels and quantum confinement effects, provide an excellent platform for investigating and controlling luminescence. in such nanostructures, multiphoton absorption, emission-spectrum modulation, and enhanced photoluminescence efficiency can be tuned by varying the size and composition of the qds. in this work, the theoretical foundations and various types of luminescence are reviewed, with particular emphasis on photoluminescence. the nonlinear optical behavior of luminescence in the presence of high-intensity light fields is analyzed, focusing on the relationship between photoluminescence and quantum dots. this study aims to elucidate the influence of electronic structure and nonlinear optical effects on light emission processes. the findings contribute to a deeper understanding of nanoscale light-emission mechanisms and may support the design of advanced quantum-dot-based lasers.
