the effect of the m-apos learning approach on enhancing understanding of static electricity concepts and correcting students’ misconceptions

Authors
Abstract    the present study aimed to investigate the effect of the modified apos (m-apos) learning model on enhancing conceptual understanding of static electricity in physics and correcting students’ misconceptions. this applied research employed a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design. the statistical population consisted of all male 11th-grade students (experimental sciences track) in the academic year 2022–2023, from which a convenience sample of 23 students was selected from imam ali model high school in mahvelat county. the data collection instrument was a researcher-made eight-item, three-level test (action, process, object/schema) with a cronbach’s alpha reliability of 0.798. the intervention was implemented over eight 60-minute sessions using guided worksheets, group activities, and exercises based on the modified ace cycle (m-apos). results revealed that, prior to the intervention, 66.5% of students were at the action and process levels, exhibiting persistent misconceptions, particularly in the concepts of electric charge and coulomb force. following the implementation of the m-apos approach, the percentage of students reaching the schema level increased significantly from 19.43% to 68.27%, while the average rate of misconceptions decreased by 42%. by replacing computer-based activities with guided worksheets, the m-apos model effectively strengthened students’ mental constructions and fostered deeper conceptual understanding of static electricity. it is recommended that physics teachers incorporate m-apos-based instructional packages when teaching abstract concepts to promote problem-solving skills, creativity, and deeper comprehension of abstract physics topics.
