Abstract
the development of physical theories is often driven by conceptual tensions, empirical anomalies, and the inability of existing frameworks to account for new phenomena. this study provides a conceptual–historical analysis of how major theoretical shifts occur by examining the transition from classical physics—with its emphasis on continuity, determinism, and absolute predictability—to quantum mechanics, which introduced fundamentally new ideas such as energy quantization, wave–particle duality, and probabilistic interpretation. the analysis begins with a review of the major crises of classical physics, including blackbody radiation, the photoelectric effect, and atomic stability, demonstrating how these anomalies exposed deep limitations in classical models. the study then explores the contributions of planck, einstein, bohr, and schrödinger, highlighting how their theoretical innovations collectively reshaped the conceptual landscape of physics. findings show that theory change is not merely the accumulation of new data but involves the restructuring of foundational concepts, the introduction of novel mathematical formalisms, and the adoption of new philosophical perspectives. understanding this process provides valuable insights for physics education, emphasizing that science is not a static body of facts but a dynamic and evolving enterprise shaped by the interplay of theory and experiment.
